The fingertips of my reflection are cold, lifelessly cold. I have felt them while skimming my hands along the silvery stagnant surface of my bedroom mirror. I do not know why I repeat this action so often, letting the mirror’s shiny surface kiss my fingertips. Each time my efforts remain unrewarded, leaving me with an icy chill as I try to decipher the identity of the girl that stares unblinkingly back at me, but I continue to do it. I continue to touch, to feel, to gently trace the outlines of my own reflection hoping that I will somehow find something original enough to hold on to, but I never do. As much as I would love to tell myself that I am something purely original, a self creation, I know that I am not. I am just pieces, shiny little pieces of reflected silver welded into something useful. As John Donne once said, â€Å"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main,† and I am no different. In America, our culture revolves around individualism. There is this â€Å"every man for himself† mentality that has slowly begun to infect our entire nation. I understand this thought process. The rapacious need to stand out, to become something original, infects my own logic, but I have never really asked myself why. Why do I have this overpowering desire to differentiate myself from the whole? What drives my quest for uniqueness? Perhaps it is an inborn desire for independence. Everyone wants to be independent or self sustainable in some form or other. It is a reciprocal desire. Ideally, if I did not depend on anyone, then no one would depend on me. Thus, independence at its core is a twisted escape from all responsibility. This drive toward independence is both futile and incredibly destructive because total independence is simple impossible. Even the most fruitful islands are not self sustainable, and neither am I. I am inescapably dependent on both the environment and the individuals that surround me. Any logic that tells me otherwise is potentially dangerous because it destroys my responsibility to dedicate myself toward the good of the whole. If I were truly independent, I would have no reason or desire to commit myself to other beings because they would have no affect on me. My natural responsibility toward the human race as a whole would be extinguished because I would be under the sole influence of m yself. To rephrase John Donne, the idea of individual humans as solitary, self-sustainable islands is highly impractical because we are each irreversibly conjoined with a greater whole, and this unity brings with it inevitable responsibilities which we can not escape from through false concepts of independence and pure individuality. By eradicating the metaphor that links individual humans to islands, one is able to achieve a higher understanding of purpose and self responsibility. The human race in general can best be described as a continent. We are, or ideally should be, a cohesive unit of extremely intelligent life. Each individual aspect of the human continent builds on and influences the whole. It is a well know fact that the individual is solely a product of their environment and the experiences they have gone through, but does not this individual also contribute to the environment and experiences of others? This individual circle of influence is what binds the human race into a solidified continent as opposed to solitary islands. The environment creates the individual, and the combined efforts of individuals create the environment. Therefore, each individual has an inherent responsibility to uphold the standards of the environment they wish to create. The concept of individuality shifts from something or iginating in a sense of false independence towards a quality sought after to make a unique contribution toward the betterment of the whole that created the individual. This same theory applies to the way a country on a particular continent may adopt a higher standard of living to increase the worth of the entire continent. When I look into my bedroom mirror, I understand that I am no independent being. I am no island. This world has created me. Without it I would be nothing, and with it I am everything. Every success I have is a contribution toward something bigger. It is a contribution toward the human race, the continent to which I am a part of. I have given myself to the cause of humanity because humanity has given itself to me. I know that if I want to make humanity beautiful, if I want to make this continent beautiful, then I must push myself to make individual contributions that will benefit the whole to shape an environment that will further shape me and future generations. After all, I am a piece of the continent, a part of the main, and I have an inborn responsibility to add a uniquely positive contribution to this unification that has made me who I am.

The one in the blue shirt is the secretary of Kelantan. He always comes to this golf club to play every Saturday. They always organized some events within the VIP committee. They love to come here because of the view and the scenery. The exciting view of this golf club is facing the ocean so it attracts not only VIP but the normal people who love to play golf.The surrounding around this golf club provide the members fresh air and condition. 14.0 CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, I chosed Pantai Sri Tujuh Golf Club because of the view and scenery. People who are check in at Pantai Sri Tujuh chalet also can spend their time at this golf club. This golf club provides many facilities about golf. It have bunker, driving range, and. Near the golf club there has a water park which is only provided for children. The customers no need to worry about the safety of their children as there has a guard to keep his eye on them. There also have chalets for the visitors and customers to stay at Pantai Sri Tujuh. In front of the chalet there also has a hall for the visitors to make barbeque, birthday party or what else. Visual Analysis of Marilyn, by Audrey Flack essays The piece that I have chosen to analyze is a painting called Marilyn, by Audrey Flack. The painting was made of oil over acrylic on canvas in the year 1977. The dimensions of this piece make me feel as if it is huge. Considering the fact that it is 8 x 8 I first relate the piece to my height which is a few feet smaller than 8 feet. When looking at the photograph of the painting in the text book I assumed it was a fairly small painting. The actual size of the piece makes me much more involved and engaged in the piece rather than if it were the size I automatically assumed it was. The proportions of the piece are 1:1; this makes the painting a perfect square, but because of how large the painting is I would not have noticed the proportions, like I did when looking at a small picture of it. When I look at this image and imagine being face to face with the original I feel as if I am at the same level as the work. I am very close to the figures, which makes me feel I am in the piece. The viewpoint almost makes me feel as though the painting is about myself even though I know it isnt and that it is actually about Marilyn Monroe and her life. I relate to each figure because they are all familiar objects that I can almost touch. The fact that this is a still life tells us the framing is intentional and the setting is very specific. There are many personal objects arranged around a book with Marilyns portrait, on elegant and rich colored fabric. Its difficult trying to imagine myself walking around in the piece because it isnt landscape, or a piece showing a plane that someone can stand on. The only way I feel I can move in the piece is with my eyes and not my feet. If I were to move I would move completely out of the paintings setting. In an attempt to guarantee such opportunities, government enforced and voluntary programs impose an assortment of racial criteria on businesses, public offices and universities. Compliance with these programs can often cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal and consultant fees as well as significant opportunity costs when organizations are forced make decisions based on race and gender instead of merit. The underlying evil of all affirmative action programs is that individuals are categorized by their race. This principle inevitably prolongs racism. This is why an anxiety of appearing racist amongst white males is very common in the United States compared to their European counterparts, and why corporations desperately seek to present themselves as non-discriminating and careers are shattered by unjust accusations of racism. Affirmative Action hurts employers There are two kinds of jobs affected by affirmative action policies. The first are employment opportunities which seek individuals who possess a minimum set of skills. Some examples include factory workers, cashiers and food service workers. Such affirmative action policies make it more difficult for individuals from non-protected groups to be considered for a position. Another kind of employment opportunity seeks the best possible candidate for the job. This category includes professorships, managerial and engineering jobs. In order to avoid the appearance of racism, consultancy groups may reluctantly employ an analyst who they know will not produce as many great ideas, hospitals may reluctantly employ a surgeon who they know will not be as effective in the ER, and universities will admit students who they know will not be as diligent. Because employment opportunities are given to less qualified, there will be less remaining opportunities awarded to the most qualified. Thus, applicants who don’t belong to a legally protected â€Å"under-represented† group compete for fewer positions and therefore face more exclusive standards for selection. As many high school graduates know, SAT scores and GPA requirements for admission to the most competitive of universities are seemingly higher for students of East Asian or East Indian descent. A high school student with a below average academic record is likely to be a below average college student. Thus, students admitted through minority recruiting programs often end up in remedial classes with mediocre academic performance. Through simple cause and effect, affirmative action programs prolong the stereotype of minority students finishing near the bottom of their class by encouraging enrollment in universities beyond an appropriate level of difficulty. According to a federal study, just 39% of enrolled black students finish their degrees compared to 54% of white students. 2 Attending a university where the pace of learning is too difficult is just as counterproductive as attempting to lift too much weight at the gym. The insistence on relaxed admission standards for minority students insinuates that such students are incapable of succeeding without such programs. This insult casts a permanent doubt on the real achievements of high-achieving minorities. Affirmative Action must end Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed that one day we would live in a society where individuals would be judged by their character and not the color of their skin. The affirmative action policies of today are both unnecessary and detrimental to minority success. The doctrine simply states that once a company is formally incorporated in accordance with law, it starts to possess a personality of its own, one distinct from its members and stockholders. This distinct personality, by fiction of law, protects a corporation from the consequences of the individual acts of its members and stockholders. The principle had its beginnings in the Roman law and was officially adopted by English law in the early case of Salmon v The Hamborough Co (1671) 1 Ch Cas 2041. Unfortunately, this principle had been, time and again, employed as a vehicle to evade individual liabilities and responsibilities that the courts were compelled to 'lift the veil,' so to speak, that separates corporations from their stockholders. Recent developments in the corporate world, however, had made it difficult to anticipate when judicial i nterference will be exercised to lift or pierce the veil of incorporation as courts have exhibited equivocations in handling 'lifting-the-veil" cases in the past. The case of Adams, however, seemed to have narrowed down the principles when judicial interference may be exercised in such cases.In the early days before the advent of complex corporate structures, there was not much question about the application of the corporate separate personality or the "lifting of the" veil cases. ... The company, however, failed to revive itself and paying the loans became difficult. The decision was debunked by the House of Lords which sustained the separate nature of the company's personality from that of Mr. Salomon. The HL held that, on its face, the incorporation was valid and in accordance with the formalities of law and therefore the court is precluded from reading meaning or inserting their own version of the law into its incorporation. There was nothing unlawful about Salomon holding ownership of more than half of the company's shares or of the fact that the subscribers or incorporators were all members of his family to which he wielded great influence upon. 3 Judicial Interference Although the Salomon principle had since been held the classic view, court decisions have swung from one side to another that it became difficult to anticipate whether they would adhere to the Salomon principle or not in every case.
